The first time I saw him, I was on a train, lost in my thoughts with headphones in. He sat across from me, sketching in a notebook.
When our eyes met, he turned his pad toward me, a simple sketch of me, smiling, with a caption: “You look like you could use a friend.”
I laughed, pulled out my earphones, and we started talking. By the time my stop arrived, I wasn’t ready to leave. He wasn’t either. So, he walked off with me.
